399774 2005-10-27 13:39:00 I'm getting an error during installation and don't know how to get to the log or files because my computer keeps reentering setup. The error says

Inconsistency detected in teh PCI Bus driver's internal structures...

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed...

If problems continue, diable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memeory options such as cashing or shadowing...

I reloaded XP home from the CD's that came with the machine and everything worked great, but then did the upgrade to XP Pro and am getting this error near the end of the 'Installing Windows' step. Any suggestions?

Thanks, BabyIT

399775 2005-10-27 15:39:00 Seems that I saw the reason for this somewhere . . . . and I think it was that you have had an update that came from Windows that bolloxed this upgrade to PRO by changing a driver .

I tried to upgrade like this a few times and finally gave up and clean-installed the whole thing . The one time it actually worked was by using this order of actions:

1) Clean-install XP-Home,
2) install SP-2 from cd-rom,
3) UPGRADE immediately to XP-Pro .

Now's the time to back-up everything you have to some off site service or partitioning . I personally use a second HDD and send all my docs and files there and that leaves the whole primary drive for you to fdisk and do a clean-install or mess up to your heart's content .

In my experience I just don't fight these things, and I think the fdisk/install is better for a good house-cleaning anyway . I don't upgrade any more . . . I just burn it down and start fresh . These days I find myself somewhere in the middle of SYSOP and USER as so much has happened since the days I programmed and the wheels are so far down the road I tend to just go for the easy way out . My Don Quixote days are fading . :dogeye:

I am SURE there are gonna be others with answers on how to FIX this; wait for a few entries and see what technique you like better . Just my :2cents:
