2005-10-31 06:55:00 | Hi folks, I am using Windows ME and have started getting the following Blue Screen error message every second or third time I shut down my computer. An error has occured. To continue: Press Enter to return to Windows, or Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. If you do this, you will lose any unsaved information in all applications. Error: 0E : 0028 : 00000002 Press any key to continue - I used to use Norton antivirus but this was professionally uninstalled 7 months ago in favour of AVG free edition. I have 384MB RAM and a 20Gb hard drive. Has anyone any ideas how I can overcome this problem? It is getting worse all the time so any help at all would be great - thanks. Batman.

2005-10-31 07:26:00 | Hi batman, Welcome to PressF1 :) Is that the full error message you are getting? Could you please post the complete error message as that will help with the troubleshooting. Prior to this happening, did you install any new software or hardware?

2005-10-31 08:53:00 | Thanks guys. Yes Jen - that is the full error message. It has the word WINDOWS above it but the message is exactly as I have typed it - it starts with "An error" and ends with "to continue -". I haven't added any new software or hardware, but I have been regularly updating the AVG antivirus. I also run Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy, both of which are regularly updated and used to scan the system. This problem started about two months ago as an occasional happening but has now become an almost daily event. Batman.

2005-10-31 17:38:00 | 0E error messages without any other details available are hard to resolve unfortunately. They can be caused for a multitude of reasons. If you have a look at the Microsoft list of 0E errors for WinME here (support.microsoft.com) you can see what I mean. This article here (support.microsoft.com) on shutdown errors may be of assistance. I take it you have WinME updated with all the patches from Microsoft?

2005-10-31 18:28:00 | Is KB 891711 installed? Check in Add/remove programs for 891711 . According to some sites, this can cause probs, as it was a buggy 98 / ME patch/update . As stated here . techweb . com/wire/security/159907205" target="_blank">www . techweb . com Is Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 5 installed? This can also create this error .

2005-11-18 05:38:00 | I believe I have found the solution to this problem... Run the following programs.... Ad-Aware SpyBot CCleaner (Issues..Scan for issues) I believe this is what really solved my problem. Not sure since I ran all three consecutively... Best of luck!! Claude ;)

2005-11-18 09:50:00 | Quite often these errors in ME are impossible to track down and will eventually lead to windows protection errors and the OS will become unbootable Take the opportunity now to backup all important data, format the sucker and do a clean install of ME (preferably XP if your system has the rescources)

2005-12-06 06:02:00 | Thanks Claude for your tip about CCleaner. It has done the trick !!! I had been regularly running Ad-Aware and Spybot. Following your advice I downloaded CCleaner and firstly ran the Cleaner function. This got rid of 1.6 GB of temporary internet file remains etc. At the same time the blue screen error message was replaced by a blank black screen at shutdown. I then ran the Issues function being careful to use the back-up system. The result now is a trouble free computer. I have started up and shut down twice a day for over a week with no sign of trouble. Thanks again Claude, Cheers, Batman.
