400576 2005-10-30 22:16:00 Hi All,

Have a problem with Microsoft Word 2000. I'm running Win98SE (yeah, I know, it's old). Word opens okay, but when it tries to open a document a message comes up in the bottom left hand corner (status bar I think) saying "Requesting virus scan...". Then it freezes & I have to reboot. I run AVG Free Edition anti virus. This has never happened before. I tried looking in both programmes to switch off the virus scan for Word 2000 with no success.

Can anybody help. Much appreciated.

400577 2005-10-30 22:22:00 I am waiting to see what results you get here on this question . . . as I too have had nothing but trouble with any of the Office 2000 stuff for a long time now .

So long, in fact that I just use WordPerfect10 for everything now .

I also have OpenOfice installed, but use it rarely nowadays .

I get all sort of errors from Word . . . like "Word was not able to fire this event" or "The visual basic portion of this program could not be launched" and other cryptic phrases that just tell me Word is screwed up .

400578 2005-10-30 23:13:00 I run Word 2000 on one of my machines with 98 and never have a problem. I have never seen any of those error messages. Scouse (83)

400580 2005-10-31 00:44:00 Likewise Scouse.

I've run Word 2000 with 98, 98se and ME without a problem.

It has also run in conjunction with NAV & AVG without a problem.

I too will watch this thread with interest. :)

400581 2005-10-31 00:47:00 Hi,

Have you tried running it with AVG turned off?

400583 2005-11-02 02:06:00 Hi, guys. Somebody here linked to my site and I found it in my stats. Very interesting forum you've got here and I hope I can help!

1. Easy way to get rid of error messages in Word: 9 times out of 10 you'll find the EXACT error message doing a Google search. 9 times out of 10 the first link will have your answer. But... I understand you guys might be special. :D

2. See my Word pages for all sorts of weirdo things going on, which are caused in large part by OTHER applications interfering, believe it or not:
www.officearticles.com

3. I'm going to try to add this to my list of forums to visit daily, but don't hesitate to PM me or email me if anybody has a Word issue that's not getting resolved.

Nice forum!! ;)
