400431 2005-10-30 20:12:00 I tried ripping a cd to my computer, ( I think I used nero) and I ended up with mp4 files....What exactly do I use to open these files? Or can I convert them into something any of my music players can recognize?

Thank you

400434 2005-10-30 21:10:00 assumin it's a music cd google for and download and use 'cdex'....... drcspy (146)
400435 2005-10-30 22:14:00 you need to check your options in Nero, as to how it rips the files off of a cd and saves them. Sorry don't use Nero to do that, so not sure which part of Nero you're using.Have a look around in the screen you bring up to rip the cd. Neil McC (178)
400436 2005-10-30 23:20:00 I didn't even know nero could rip CDs. MP4 is the latest standard for compressed music. It has been around for ages, but most portable devices still only play formats based on the mp3 standard. AAC is the most common implimentation of the mp4 standard.

I think Winamp can play mp4 files. Actually, I've never found a non-DRM music file that Winamp couldn't play.

400437 2005-10-30 23:53:00 Yes I agree with a previous comment about needing to check the options on NERO as there might be some that enable you to dictate what format the files are saved as. However, I dont use NERO so I could say for sure...

However, I know there are programs out there that will convert formats. Basically you are saying the MP3 files you craeted on CD wont work in your CD player. A program like Blaze Media is one that will convert file formats, not sure if it is free though, but look throught the internet as I am sure you could find some that are or ones which are even better than the one I mentioned

Best of luck

400438 2005-10-31 00:45:00 I suggst going to Google and getting a program called Db Power Amp. It's free and it'll rip anything to your choice of about three different formats. It's much easier than Nero and you can set the quality - ie small files, low quality or larger files, better sound etc.

Good luck,

Joe

400439 2005-10-31 02:49:00 i prefer cdex for ripping. dbpoweramp is ok but i prefer cdex.

as far as mp4 files go, nero player should be able to play them. otherwise you need aac codec installed.

400440 2005-10-31 03:14:00 You can use Nero Express . Run Nero Express .

Select More down the bottom / save tracks .

Chuck an audio cd in it'll ask u if u want cddb to read the cd . Select the cd name/album .

Then u can select what format u want to rip it in .

MP4/Aiff/MP3/MP3 Pro/WMA/Ogg or Wav .

Select the folder u want it to rip it to, and click on go .
