400953 2005-10-30 17:20:00 I have a thinkpad 390 with windows xp, 2 days ago i installed some music software on it, 4 hours later it shutdown on me. Now when i turn on the computer it gets the the welcome screen, it says ive run out of virtual memory and its expanding my disk space. i get to the desktop screen and thats all that shows up. no start menu no Icons.... Nothing.

Ive looked everywhere on google search for the problem but im not sure what I should do.

is there a way to fix this using Bios the correct way?

any suggestions, thanks.

400954 2005-10-30 17:45:00 See if u can boot into safe mode. Do the icons etc appear?

See if u can uninstall whatever music program you installed 2 days ago. And reboot. See if it makes any diff.

How much ram is in it??

64MB? Thats not much to run XP . I would say thats why you're having probs .

XP needs at least 256 - 512mb .

To get into safe mode, reboot, and press F8 down . Then select safe mode .

If safe mode shows the icons etc, right mouse on the My computer icon on the desktop (if its there), and click on the general tab . This will show u how much ram you've got . If it shows 64 mb, you need to get some more ram .

Not sure if you mean 640k, which may appear on the post screen .

BUT it does sound like you haven't got enough ram .
