400414 2005-10-30 09:10:00 Hi,
I do a little work with swipe card data capture terminals which usually use RS232,RS485 or Ethernet as the method of communication between the capture terminal and the PC.
This latest job requires the data to be sent over the phone lines between two cities using PC dial up to call a modem in the capture terminal and with some software I have on my PC doing the talking and hopefully sending the swipe card data back.
At the moment I cant get it to work, I have tried calling the terminal and find it will answer but the software I am using is giving error messages like modem timed out.
I will deal with my supplies over these issues, but what I need to know, is there any settings in my PC dial-up modem that I can change to get better reliability of the connection like unticking hardware compression as this is different work for the modem, this type of data transfer runs pretty slow compared to internet work, only 1200 to 2400 Baud Rate.
I have no way to alter the modem settings at the terminal end as it not available in the software I am using.
Any help would be great,
John.
