1357584 2005-11-02 00:45:00 Nonsense - it may be against school policy, but I doubt it's actually "illegal".

Besides - here's a budding PressF1 user and PCWorld subscriber - why chase him away!?

Greg the Stirrer

I think the quote was "things his school considers illegal". Not breaking the law, but breaching some sort of policy that they have in place for their students to abide by.

1357585 2005-11-02 01:08:00 Hi Greg. Read my post again. As for chasing away a budding Press F1 user - well it is his first post, according to him (although it states Posts - 6) and failure to get support to crack his schools system may well get him to move on. I know that I would be highly pissed off if I was the IT guy there, trying to fend off maybe a couple of thousand keen types, only to find that a site such as this is actually helping to break down my defences. Bigger picture!!
Illegal: Adjective.
Prohibited by law or by official or accepted rules."An illegal chess move.)

1357586 2005-11-02 01:21:00 If "Wardog" has been foolish enough to try running a " . reg" file, the Sytem Adminstrator might be getting in touch . :D

Having spent the time to do a robust security lockdown, they won't have neglected the log files .

I believe that it's now an offence to attempt to break the security . . . but it doesn't need to be .

The school will have a policy which allows pupils to use the computers only as allowed by the school . "Wardog" probably signed a form agreeing to comply with the rules . The form probably spelled out the consequences of not complying with the rules .

The system administrator shouldn't mind being asked if it's possible to change aspects of the security . They will mind someone trying to do it themselves .

1357587 2005-11-02 01:22:00 Local school spent quite a few bob making their school network "hack proof", Tom fool students booted up a live Linux CD and mucked up the Principals rig within 20 minutes of the system going live.... Metla (12)
1357588 2005-11-02 01:40:00 I agree with you Scouse .

The other thing, too, is that "Wardog" won't be the only school person interested in these replies . As has been said, the long-suffering IT personnel have enough to do as it is, what with trying to keep their systems up and running without anyone stirring up more trouble .

1357589 2005-11-02 01:56:00 Meh, Might as well live a little while your young, Its not as if they will get a fine.

Must be terribly boring behaving yourselves for your entire lives, Granted it may wreck havok for the IT guy, Buts thats his job, he gets paid to be their and keep it ship tight.

Maybe not a fine but it is highly likely that they will get stood down for several days . Not a good idea at this time of year . . .

And anyway, as far as "living a little while your young" goes, you still haven't properly grown up . When is the cut-off point? :p :D

1357591 2005-11-02 05:55:00 oh please do you really think these "data managers" are the ultimate pc techs? well certianly not the case at our school.

our one says i better get garry,a real pc tech from invers to have a look at it if there is a problem, and so garry VNC to our school and takes a glance, might even add a folder that is missing to the frontpage directory that was missing.....

our pc's arnt hack proof. there are still several ways to get past things. i noticed i could access the command prompt which was "hidden", so i just made a shortcut and i could of used it. a while later a kid got busted for sending a netsend, teacher even said that there was a hacker in the network

basically ever site is blocked at school, its out of line, the message you get is either that it contains electronic commerce,p0rn or free mail/hosting. they blocked hotmail as they do, and gmail too but i found away to access it, i used gmails secure site.

i should try the linux live cd........

1357592 2005-11-02 06:01:00 yea, i probably would get stood down. Lol. anyway, someone said it a post, that if I give them the name of the school, they will ask the school to unblock it. Im not going to give he/she the name, ill be in deep crap if they find out it was me who was trying to get right click enabled. So, ive found out how to get past web blockers, and ive found out how to get into the teachers program called "AB Tutor Control". im 14 by the way Wardog (6821)
