400569 2005-10-31 08:33:00 IMHO the best thing to do is to go thru it manually and remove as much crud as you can . Thru their own uninstallers or Add/Remove (presuming Windows) .

I have revived a number of old dead comps by simply removing as much crud as I could identify and only then using updated versions on AdAware and Spybot and CCleaner ( and it's excellent registry sweeper) .

In my experience ( and OK it's only my experience ) I have found that the more you can remove yourself the better . Tho that's not to diss the many excellent clean-up programs .

Bit like picking the socks off the floor before you vacuum .

400570 2005-10-31 20:28:00 Every now and again I get asked to clean up friends machines, and what I find useful is to put the latest F-PROT Does it auto-repair infected files? Greg (193)

When the program is run, a dos 'gui' comes up with a list of options.
I think from memory the options to either just list and report infected files or to auto delete come up after pressing Scan, but it is fairly self evident.

400573 2005-11-01 04:15:00 OK, here are the 'Action' options under Scan:

Report Only
Disinfect/Query
Automatic disinfection
Delete/Query
Automatic deletion
Rename/Query
Automatic renaming

....And under Options:

Scan inside archives
Scan compressed executables
Scan subdirectories
Scan a normal system
List only infected files
Do not beep when a virus is found
Use heuristics

So it is a fairly comprehensive.

I can't think of an appropriate tune, but wait what about this one;
Memories of You (www.redhotjazz.com), Duke Ellington and the Cotton Club Orchestra in 1930 a tune still played today, from "The Blackbirds of 1930"

Here's another one that everyone should know Thanks For The Memory (www.genecowan.com), Bob Hope and Shirley Ross. Bob Hopes theme tune, not so well known though is that it came from the film The Big Broadcast of 1938.
