400592 2005-10-31 01:08:00 I went onto Nero web site. Downloaded an update to my Nero5. I didn't use it but since then my boot up has produced a note that the serial number for Nero is wrong. - and I should go to the website for help. I did and they are trying but the trouble is deleting Nero and reinstalling it works fine but there is NO request for a serial number. I don't have one but have found it in the registry. Obviously the registry is wrong and I am tempted to delete any reference to the serial number. Now that scares me.
What should I do to get rid of this note popping up?
Oh and I did try the update. Again installed OK. Still no request for a serial number. And still the note pops up.

400593 2005-10-31 03:53:00 It does have a serial. It enters it itself - at least on the OEM version it does. Perhaps your update is for a retail version only? pctek (84)
400594 2005-10-31 04:04:00 True if its an OEM version, the serial is part of the installation .

BUT then if you have/had V5, and upgraded to V6 of Nero, the serial u had for V5 may not work with Version 6 .

Which is why Nero said the serial doesnt work .

What version did u download from the Nero site? V5 . xx or V6 . xx?

Or run Nero and go to Help/Enter new serial # and change the serial # .

And what serial were u using?

Depending on what the serial # is u entered, different serials give u different versions .

ie: OEM, Ultra,Enterprise, and also different options once Nero is running .

400595 2005-10-31 20:13:00 I have only used v5 and I understand now the serial number is already part of the installation process. But taking the advice to change the serial number - I have no other number available to put in. Should I delete the number in the registry and then reinstall Nero ?
That seems logical to me but interfering with the registry scares me.
