401369 2005-11-02 08:16:00 I have just reformatted my hard drive because of constant problems. Now I have a worse problem. I am running Norton AntiVirus, Partition Magic and GoBack 4.0 with XP Home upgraded to SP2. GoBack takes almost a full minute to go through its offer to allow you to revert the drive before Windows starts up. The hard drive will boot up after this delay. A drive reversion takes forever. Symantec's very prompt reply confirms my suspicions that I have a corrupted Master Boot Record (MBR). Their advice is to use XP's Recovery Console to fix the MBR.
However, I am unable to get the XP CD to boot so I cannot get that far. The CD is OK because I used it in the reformatting procedure earlier. I have tried to make a bootable floppy to get to the same area but all the instructions available are for XP Home and XP Home SP1.
In Win 98 I have achieved this and it was a breeze - this is an impossible situation. Do I have to purchase a US$50 program to do the job?

BOTH shouldn't be running at the same time.
