401016 2005-11-01 08:12:00 Hi, I am new to the Board and not good with PC...just bought a PC from PC world ...set up OK ...But can someone advise how to move address book /contacts from old PC onto new machine in outlook express. I just cant work out how to do it Amron (9184)
401017 2005-11-01 08:38:00 You could export to documents as Wab and email to outlook express.Sounds a bit complicated, may be better to wait for a reply from Safari. ;) Cicero (40)
401018 2005-11-01 09:29:00 Does your new computer run WinXP? Have a look at the Wizard to transfer Files and Settings found under All Program > Accessories > System Tools. You can use this tool to backup your personal settings and files on the old machine even if it doesn't run XP and then import them into the new system. WinXP's help files on the Wizard should have further details on how this works. :)

Welcome to PressF1 NZ as well. :)

All you need is some sort of media (floppy or CD) to copy the information over. You could probably even email it to yourself if you know how to use attachments.

In Outlook Express, select File --> Export and select Address book. I recommend that you use a comma-separated values (CSV) format as it's more portable and can be recovered if something happens since it's just a basic text file.
Copy that onto the new computer, choose File --> Import, and select the CSV file.

Thanks Jen. I never knew about this feature! To bad it doesn't automatically list Firefox settings... ;)

Just be careful that you never rely on it entirely, ie format a computer then use it for restoring your data afterwards from a CD or sometihng .

I know of at least two people who, for some strange reason, were unable to restore theirs and lost everything they had backed up in it . It would be wise to have an alternative backup of the data as well .

Amron: Have you been successful in moving your address book over yet?
