401526 2005-11-03 10:11:00 Change SATA RAID / AHCI Mode to AHCI .

As stated in the manual

AHCI Set the onboard SATA controller to AHCI mode . Advanced Host
Controller Interface (AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the
storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native
Command Queuing and hot plug . For more details about AHCI, please
visit Intel's website .

Change the bootdisk to cd, Chuck the XP CD in, then save the BIOS settings .

Then try installing XP on the SATA . If this doesnt work .

If you havent got a SATA RAID disk/floppy, create it with the mobo cd, on the PC you're on then try .

I read somewhere online not all mobos (with 1 SATA) need drivers, BUT some Gigabyte mobos do .

If this option is set to RAID, you also have to create the RAID array .

You can't . You need 2 SATA's .

As you've noticed, disabling this option shows the SATA as IDE .

Which the manual says

Disabled Set the onboard SATA controller to IDE mode .

401527 2005-11-03 23:43:00 FINGERS CROSSED - XP is formatting drive at the moment . .

Changed the BIOS to default settings .
Uploaded the drivers from the Motherboard CD to Floppy .
Boot setup disk,
Press "F6" to "if you need to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver" .
(Tried a few versions, ie . Silicon Si3114, Promise 28779 etc that did no work . Also tried to install the ICH7R RAID controllers but its already installed)

ONLY 1 worked . ICH7R for ACHI . I think this is missing!

And windows is formatting .

Why is it that motherboard manufacturers advertised SATA connectors but do not make this easy for installation . Isn't it suppose to be plug and play?

401529 2005-11-04 00:10:00 No worries :) Hope its up and running now! Can you get into Windows now?

I would say if it failed when u pressed F6, it doesnt need the SATA drivers.

If XP is NOW on the SATA, thats the main thing!

I would have said, install SP1 or 2, BUT this version I think doesnt have one yet!
