401466 2005-11-03 00:56:00 Check its in the KB port not the mouse port. Load Windows, go into Device manager.
Remove KB and reboot.
You can do it with the mouse.

Mouse stayed all the time, did not plug it out, so there can't be a mistake. Chacked plug connection, is ok. Also can't reload os without KB, since it asks for serial number.

Will try to reload KB driver. The other comp also WinXP home, so can make a flopy, if I find KB driver file.

401468 2005-11-03 03:37:00 :D Hi guys! It is ok now!

I switched PC off
Removed KB
Booted up again
Plagged back KB
Mouse stack, frozen dead this time.
Swiched off PC
Booted up again, with mouse and KB in-and all started to work!

Any explanations?

401469 2005-11-03 05:03:00 Hey that's great .

As to the "any explanations?" bit hmm not really except that very often a glitch can be oversome with a good cold hard re-boot . (Even leave it alone switched off for half an hour . )

I'd try a few more cold boots just to be assured .

You already know about hot-swapping, well, you do now .

P . S . Just to add to the confusion I saw a tech put new RAM (and take out the old stick) into a comp while it was still running . Found that a puzzle but haven't researched it .

anyway :D

I've done that, but I only dared do it to an unkillable 486 :)

Where did I say RELOAD Windows? I said reboot. Which fixed it as you discovered.

I had the same problem (only for me the KB stopped working in the middle of a messenger conversation) - I did as u said - and it worked!

Really weird....

Thanks!

401474 2006-07-16 23:27:00 I am having this problem also. It keeps happening although not everytime I start up my computer. Restarting the computer usually fixes this problem and i dont touch the keyboard plug... so that rules out the problem being with the keyboard not being plugged in properly.

I will keep checking on this. If anyone else has any information on this I would be grateful. You can email me on my email address at nozeman@lycos.com

Tnx.
