| 401485 | 2005-11-02 23:29:00 | Hi, I am just in the process of putting together my new HTPC. I am using Gigabyte 81945 Mobo Gigabyte 6600GT 256Mb video card Silverstone ST60F PSU - comes with PCIe 6 pin connectors Questions. The Mobo has a 4 pin power connector for extra power to the PCIe slots. The PSU has the normal 6 pin PCIe connnectors. Do I need to buy a adaptor for conect both or can I use a normal 4 pin (12V) to connect to the mobo for extra power to the video card? Is it necessary to connect the extra power at all to the mobo for the video card? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

| 401488 | 2005-11-03 00:58:00 | There is (sometimes) a 6pin connector that plugs into the graphics card. If the graphics card requires it and there isn't one on the PSU you can get an adpater cable. Then there is the 4 pin cable that goes into the MB. They are 2 different things. |

| 401489 | 2005-11-03 01:03:00 | The power connector on the mainboard is only for extra power if you are using 2 PCIe graphics cards in SLI mode. I have seen some mainboards that have this power connector on them even though they are not an SLI board. |

| 401490 | 2005-11-03 02:28:00 | Thanks. I think CyaBro answers my question. Yes my motherboard has two PCIe slots and the extra power is for that but its a 4 pin. My PSU has a 6 pin PCIe connectors which (I think) are meant to be connected directly to certain Graphics card. If that's the case I won't need to connect the EXTRA power to the motherboard until I install 2 PCIe cards. Is that right? | ephesus (2509) | ||
