402181 2005-11-05 18:32:00 What operating system? back up all data then reformat hard drive...afterwards install Firewall, antivirus, spy/adware software...and keep them up to date...Since this is for an elderly person it helps to go and do it for them(do updates etc) Also warn them of phishing scams... 402183 2005-11-05 19:06:00 i would say if phished thru messenger or email then there's nothing to 'clean' ........a phising attempt doesn't leave physical files on the pc unless it's just the email that led to the event....... drcspy (146)

What? Thats rather insulting to all the perfectly PC literate, competent elderly people out there.
Shouldn't generalise.....

402186 2005-11-05 19:28:00 I doubt he has been 'phished' for an MSN account. If so its probably nothing more than a script-kiddie.
I would either retry the account, or set up a new one.
If your friend is that concerned, I would run and antivirus and spyware scan, in safe mode if possible. Forget Nortons, use AVG for a freebie or something like it.
