401647 2005-11-03 19:51:00 This is not an urgent question...

I was formatting a new disk DVD and kinda like half way through formatting, I cliked the CD drive which was formatting. and there was an error and now I cant access the disk at all. I cant even format it. When I try to format it, it says something like ' The disk is read only...etc' and when i double cliked the drive it says something along the lines of ' DVD not accessible'. I dont no wat to do now. :(

401648 2005-11-03 20:04:00 And why did u format the DVD??

I take it, you're putting files you've downloaded on it? / backing up files?

And you have a DVD burner?

If you put a cd with something on it, does it load??

The DVD burner itself is alright isn't it? You're just talking about the blank DVD? And how are you formatting this DVD?

401649 2005-11-03 20:58:00 Wat do mean y did i format it? Most of the times, when u buy new DVDs or CDs or even floppies u need to format it before u can use it. If I didnt format the DVD speedy I wouldnt be able to drag and drop files onto it. And it does load when I put stuff onto CDs. Drag and Drop is the same as kinda burning rite? Yes the DVD drive is alrite and its just my DVDs problem coz I opened the DVD drive while it formatting. I format the DVD by 'Right Click>Format' lol.

puff...puff...puff.. Does that answer your questions speedy? lol :D So now can u help me? ^_^ Thnx :D

401650 2005-11-03 21:01:00 If you format a CD-R or DVD+R or DVD-R disc then you can't write any more data to it because they are write-once and a format is a write.
You need to use CD-RW, DVD-RW or DVD+RW discs to format and then be able to drag'n'drop to the disc.

401651 2005-11-03 21:06:00 Im sorry Cyabro but its not like that on my PC. Im talking about drag n drop here not actually 'burning'. I HAVE to format it before I can Drag 'n' Drop becoz thats wat i usually do with my CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. If I do not Format it, and I try to access it, itll come up with a pop-up thing saying ' Disk not accesseble...' with a red circle and an 'X' through it. The only time i do not format DVDs is when i burn videos to it using Sonic. If I formatted the DVD, THEN itll not work with Sonic BUT will with drag n drop. Naruto28 (7236)
401652 2005-11-03 21:13:00 Disable XP's burning, if this is what you're using . It sux .

As it normally doesn't do DVD's by default, in XP .

Use something like INCD, or directcd .

Or just use Nero, select data cd, and leave the cd/dvd open (Tick multisession) . So you can add to it .

401653 2005-11-03 21:17:00 I'm sure there is a service called 'Mt Rainier' or 'Nero Incd' to format cd/dvds but ony the rewritable ones not cdr or dvdr...(so just to drag and drop to disc)...hey try re-booting you system mite fix the problem.

401654 2005-11-03 21:24:00 Mt Rainier is supported on some burners (its a feature) as well, but not all .

But XP doesnt support this by default .

But there are programs that use / support it, but they're not free .

I've never used INCD, only directcd, which will format any cd/dvd .
