401682 2005-11-03 06:36:00 Which of the following CPU's would you consider the best for general home computing/gaming?
1/ Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz Prescott LGA 775 800MHz FSB 1 Mb L2 cache
2/ Intel Pentium 4 EM64T 630 3.0 GHz
I'm looking at a couple of systems on Trademe and these are the CPUs.
Any opinions appreciated.

401683 2005-11-03 06:52:00 If I have to do an upgrade...I will go for Athlon X2 dual core cpu...(but thats for gaming) Your cpus are both ok for gaming...i.e clock speeds are above 2GHz Mr Wetzyl (362)
401684 2005-11-03 07:39:00 The AMD 64's and Dual cores are killing the Intels in almost all gaming benchmarks and they run cooler, so I would say niether Intel. The AMD 64's are also generally cheaper than equivalent Intel.

If you running High end application that utilise Hyperthreading then go Intel, although this is rare for home use.

So answer the question then. Which of the two Intel CPUs are best.
I go for AMD CPUs in general and therefore won't answer the question.

I have built computers with Intel CPUs.

I use an AMD CPU. This works for me.

Note that the question was comparing two INTEL CPUs and nothing about price was mentioned.

I can't actually be bothered getting on to various sites to find out.

Rather than complaining about the "AMD Fanboys" why not answer the question?

401690 2005-11-03 08:27:00 Not only cpus but consider the...motherboard...video card...ram...hdd...monitor....
Anything to play the latest games at their maximum resolutions...without any trouble.

401691 2005-11-03 09:05:00 The systems I'm looking at are
1/ Pentium 4 EM64T 630 3.0GHz 2MB cache/1GB RAM/Foxconn 6617MX-S mobo/Radeon 9600 256MB graphics card/Polyview V396 19" monitor

2/ Pentium 4 3.4GHz Prescott LGA 775 1MB cache/2GB RAM/Gigabyte GA-8S648FX-775 mobo/Radeon 9600Pro 256MB graphics card/monitor as above.

Both priced within $20 of each other.

Which is the better package? The most future proof (I know-no such thing)?
Thanks,
Graham.
