402567 2005-11-07 19:25:00 Can anyone recommend a good reliable, well-specc'd alternative to the Asus 1608P? I'm after one with a black face (v. important, as I now have a black case, and white drives don't really fit the look), but suppliers don't seem to be stocking the black Asus anymore. Can somebody recommend a drive with a black face that meets or exceeds the reviews of the Asus?

Cheers

I'm using a black one here.

Are you in Auckland Liz?

www.edencomputers.co.nz

They do sell black ones, but they've got the wrong pic above...

By the looks of it, they've got them in stock, in the warehouse.

But failing an ASUS - try Liteon, Sony or Pioneer.

So I've read on the net.
