402142 2005-11-07 02:18:00 Why/How does a site suddenly become blocked? Cymbalz (4460)
402143 2005-11-07 20:17:00 I'm getting desperate to retieve emil from Excite and still can't even get their home page to open no matter what route I try. How does a site reach this condition? Cymbalz (4460)
402144 2005-11-07 20:49:00 Did you check your Hosts file as previously suggested? Do a search for Hosts (you will need to have hidden and system files viewable to find it) and temporarily rename it to Hosts-hold or similar. Then see if the page will load.

What firewall are you using? Some will block certain sites though they usually need some kind of user intervention to do so.

Do you have Spybot installed? If so, disable Spybot's Advanced settings for Immunisation and whatever, just to see whether it has done something.

What about pop-up blockers and other similar tools? Do you have any installed that may have recently acquired a mind of their own?

If none of the above work give Xtra a call and discuss it with them. The site is working for others so the problem is either on your computer or, somehow, with Xtra.

402145 2005-11-07 21:29:00 Have you tried accessing the site using the IP for it? Enter the following into your address bar and see what happens:

402146 2005-11-07 23:14:00 We've got an Xtra test account here at work, I can get to www.excite.com no problems.

Perhaps you should try rebooting your machine just to clear DNS caches, restart the firewall/networking stuff etc.

Edit: Why would you want to go there, damn IE pop-ups and bollocks *goes back to linux*

402147 2005-11-08 19:24:00 Thanks to everyone for your helpful responses. After a lengthy session yesterday with Xtra tech staff, I have been advised to do a System Restore to a date prior to the problem arising. Wish me luck!!! Cymbalz (4460)
402148 2005-11-08 20:47:00 Well, I tried the System Restore three times and it reported that it was unable to complete the restore. So it's back to square one. Cymbalz (4460)
402149 2005-11-08 22:05:00 Oh bugger. :(

Might be time to round up some artillery and check whether there are gremlins on your system now then. Run through the instructions on this page (www.pressf1.co.nz 16) and see if that makes a difference.

402151 2005-11-09 01:43:00 Kind of hard to know what else to suggest. Might be a good time to do a back up and reformat your HD. :p maccrazy (6741)
