| 402238 | 2005-11-06 02:13:00 | :help: I had about 3 gb of pace available, now I only have 128 mb. Something is just dumping its trash onto my PC. I have scaned with Spy Sweeper along with Avast antivirus and the trash is still there. What is amazing though, is while the PC is being scanned I tend to see all kinds of X rated contents being checked and when I go try accessing those files via my computer I see none of those filthy content. Presently my editing programs can't even open. Can you tell me what I am up against? How do I remedy this situation?. Thanks Guys |

This does not mean you actually have those items on your computer. I know Spybot Search & Destroy very briefly displays each item as it looks for it in the status bar at the bottom of the window. If nasties were found during the scan, then at the completion of the scan they should be listed in the summary of the scan results. I've moved this thread to the correct forum. :) |

| 402241 | 2005-11-06 06:01:00 | try installing windirstat (google it - you'll appreciate some of the information about it that google will also spit up) and see what's chewing up the space... might just be a legitimate application dumping a lot of temp or log files somewhere, it's not unheard of and unfortunately it's something I have to deal with a lot because it's just not common knowledge. <Musing> Come to think of it, PC maintenance/ownership can be compared to car maintenance/ownership - you've got the people who take care of their pc's - comparable to the people who do their regular check-ups, oil replacements etc and surprise surprise their gear does what it needs to reliably. Then you've got Mr install-every-application-/-systemtray-the-width-of-the-screen who can be considered akin to that guy - you know, the guy with every little knick knack from repco/dse/jaycar/thinkgeek/... on his car, or the try hard kiddy racer who thinks that the more stickers on the side of the car the faster it will go... the analogy goes on ;) </Musing> I remember a few years ago AVG was toppling an old NT4 server that I was working on for one of my cash strapped clients - basically AVG had packed the boot drive with a few gigs of log files and was doing weird things with the pagefile. byebye AVG, hello clamwin. I'm still trying to convince that client to jump entirely to OSS ;) Also run a disk cleanup, you'll find that temporary internet files can chew through a surprising amount. If it does turn out to be temporary internet files, you can adjust how much space to assign for temp internet files and also set an age restriction - ie anything older than x days is automagically deleted |
