403043 2005-11-10 01:18:00 When trying to open xcel spreadsheets I get the message "Windows cannot find 'c:/.....xls' Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." Xcel starts but the file does not open If xcel is started first then open the file from the file menu it opens ok. If I save a new file to "location" and close xcel I still cannot open the file directly. I have run registry first aid and cleaned up. I have reinstalled xcell from the office cd. OS=xp sp2 and all updates. Office is Office 97.
All other office files open directly no problems.

403046 2005-11-10 03:09:00 When trying to open xcel spreadsheets I get the message "Windows cannot find 'c:/.....xls' Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." Xcel starts but the file does not open If xcel is started first then open the file from the file menu it opens ok. If I save a new file to "location" and close xcel I still cannot open the file directly. I have run registry first aid and cleaned up. I have reinstalled xcell from the office cd. All other office files open directly no problems.

Try Office 97 SP1 or SP2 - one of these worked on Word, the same problem you're having.

403047 2005-11-10 03:24:00 Sorry. Should have mentioned SR2 installed for office. Neville (9222)
403048 2005-11-10 03:48:00 you could also stuff in yoru office cd and either reinstall or when it give you the choice 'repair'....... drcspy (146)
403049 2005-11-10 20:44:00 Try my troubleshooter:
www.officearticles.com

Likely, it's the first one...

I also have to say that the batch file is pretty drastic of a measure to reassociate only Excel files. Reassociating an application to its file type is much more easily done right in Windows:

403050 2005-11-10 23:08:00 May be a problem with registration. Select Start|Run then enter the path to Excel (eg C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Excel.exe) then a space then /unregserver. Note you will need quotes around the path if the name contains spaces like above.

eg "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Excel.exe" /unregserver

After that, re-register by doing the same thing excep replace /unregserver with /regserver

403051 2005-11-10 23:11:00 Hi, Parry!!

Yep. Just a note: that does the same thing as my "dump the registry key" in the article I provided. :)
