403066 2005-11-11 08:25:00 AVG dosn't change any email settings in any email program, not since AVG6 that is. it uses interacts via ports or plugin. neither need any changes to email settings. the email settings could have been made by a previous AV program that you replaced with AVG.

with win9x/me Avast will change email program settings.

i have found that the dailup/lan optoin of avg dosn't make much difference however what causes a few problems is the email setup gets automaticly disabled due to it being not allow through the firewall. after first use (you allowed avg through fiewall) go and turn on the email scanner (its a bit hard to find in the email section of avg) and you will find it will work fine after that.

403067 2005-11-13 01:08:00 No luck with Google. My request gave 10,000 hits...far too many to sort through. I downloaded Avast, which took 35 minutes, and installed this programme. Unfortunately, I did this before my registration was accepted and consequently was unable to access my email. To enable me to do this, I reverted my hard drive to get rid of Avast, as it does not seem to have an undelete option. As it would take 35 minutes to reload this, I think I will stick with AVG. Thanks for your help, unless you can tell me what to search for in Google. Avast certainly looked a very interesting programme. Roly Duff (5149)

If you didn't find this page you were searching for the wrong thing.
free.grisoft.com

That page would lead you to the reference manual

See if the answer is in that.

403069 2005-11-26 00:29:00 Thanks for your help but todate I have not solved the problem of using Outlook Express While AVG e-mail checking is active. My ISP, ihug has suggested I uninstall Norton AV as it being active might be the problem. I am reluctant to do this as it is NAV 2002 and if I have to reinstall it, could require a considerable update. Do you consider that NAV still operating is stopping me contacting OE? Roly Duff (5149)
403070 2005-11-26 04:32:00 I'm not a NAV expert, but have read enough threads here complaining about its habit of interfering with other programs to assume it's highly likely to be the culprit.
Some members of this forum have been loud in their criticism of it for that. But I couldn't possibly comment...
It's a pity you didn't mention earlier that you have it installed...
I'll leave the follow-up to the experts.
Meanwhile, did you try PaulD's Google links?

403071 2005-11-26 04:32:00 Are you using Norton AV and AVG?

Thats a bad idea, as they probably will not play well together.

You must only run one AV program at a time, as having two can mean that they conflict with each others activities and neither will work.

403072 2005-11-26 04:36:00 Snap, godfather.
That's what I was hoping someone else would confirm - before I asked WHY he wanted AVG as well as NAV.

So it's choices now, Roly Duff.
One or the other, but not both...

403073 2005-11-26 20:43:00 Thanks all, I will do as you suggest. I was simply keeping NAV as a backup should I not be able to install AVG. If I have to reinstall NAV 2002 from my disk it will take forever on the net to update it from that year! I would have unistalled NAV after sucessfully installing AVG Roly Duff (5149)
403074 2005-11-26 20:51:00 Or just disable Norton AV's incoming email virus scanning .

If its there somewhere .
