1393786 2015-02-08 20:20:00 Hi! I've been in this forum before with a different problem which was solved by tech gurus! I hope to receive the same kind of help again. Although this is not a major issue which hinders my work on the computer but I'm just curious to know why thumbnails of my videos in Windows Explorer, which had been previously clearly shown like still pictures, have ceased to appear now after installation of a few softwares. Maybe it's because of Nero 7 but even after uninstallation the problem persists. Will somebody kindly help me with restoration of Thumbnail view? I can see the option Thumbnails under Views but it doesn't work anymore. I'd highly appreciate help of the experts like before.
Regards,
Rashid

1393787 2015-02-08 21:01:00 It can happen when you change the default player for that file type sometimes, or if the properties of the folder have been changed to not be videos.
Have you installed any Video playing software?

1393789 2015-02-08 21:09:00 But just now I realize that only MP4 files don't show thumbnails. All others do. My default player is Media Player Classic, although I've jetAudio and VLC media player also installed on my computer.

Do you think it somehow has to do with Nero 7 because I guess these changes happened after installation of this software although I've immediately uninstalled it?

I've searched on the internet but couldn't find a working solution.

1393790 2015-02-08 22:00:00 Always try Reinstalling VLC again and ticking "make VLC my Default Player"

If VLC does not play it ,nothing else will

1393791 2015-02-08 22:30:00 I'm certain now that it is Nero 7 which is bringing changes. I had solved the problem by editing registry after uninstalling Nero 7. Now I reinstalled Nero 7 just to check and the problem reappeared. More interestingly the key I had earlier added remains but the problem in spite of that resurfaces. Any comments on that by someone who knows how to play with registry carefully without harming the operating system?

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mp4ShellEx{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"

I also see one more entry there, i.e.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mp4ShellEx{E357FCCD-A995-4576-B01F-234630154E96}]
@="{c5aec3ec-e812-4677-a9a7-4fee1f9aa000}"

Will it bring any harm if I recreate a new registry key like the first one by deleting both once? I want to keep Nero 7 for copying data. Thank you! Or, is there some simple solution of the problem, please? : )

1393792 2015-02-08 23:20:00 As above just make VLC player the default program. It'll still work with Nero Speedy Gonzales (78)
1393793 2015-02-08 23:27:00 Playing video files is not an issue actually! It's thumbnails that are not showing in Windows Explorer. All other files but not mp4. mdRASHIDkhi (16580)
1393794 2015-02-08 23:30:00 Well It should show them, once you make it default. I know playing them isnt the prob Speedy Gonzales (78)
1393795 2015-02-08 23:32:00 No, it didn't even then, sir. Should I restart the computer for this? mdRASHIDkhi (16580)
