| 1380561 | 2014-08-03 19:36:00 | The Jewish people were "dispersed" ( the Diaspora) out of Judea by the Romans in CE 70, and the land was renamed Palestine. A few obscure Jewish settlements remained. In the 1880s the Zionist movement arose in the US and Britain with the aim of helping Jews return to their ancient home. Land was purchased from Palestinians who were happy to sell what was essentially desert to naive settlers. The land in bits and pieces was bought and paid for and took decades to be made fertile. Palestine at this time was held by the Ottoman Empire and land sales required the local Governor's consent. The Ottomans had no sympathy for Jews so didn't make it easy. In 1917 came the Balfour Declaration that Britain would look kindly on a homeland for the Jewish people. Deliberately vague and meaningless given that WWI was at a stalemate, but eventually Britain did take over the Palestinian Mandate. In 1948 the United Nations (not Britain or the USA alone) resolved that parts of Palestine would become the new nation of Israel. In May 1948 four Arab armies attacked the new state. The attacking soldiers told the local Palestinians to leave, on the promise that they could come back in a few days and share the spoils. To this day that is one of the core reasons for Palestinian's loss of land. More wars occurred and at one point Israel controlled the whole of the Sinai Peninsula, which is larger than Israel itself. But it gave the Sinai back to Egypt in the hope of peace and in fact that worked. The only bordering nation which has continued to fight is Syria. Thanks Winston rather than myth spread in a book |

Book by New Zealander Frederick Robert Augustus GLOVER tells the story of pre Roman Israelites, just starting to read it on the net. | 1380565 | 2014-08-05 06:52:00 | From my readings of the history of the Jewish people and their fight over the centuries for a place to call home, the reaction by Israel to Hamas rocket fire and tunnel infiltration was telegraphed well in advance, and it is no surprise that they declined the invitation to lie down and die. If the rockets stopped, the tunnels were filled in, and the Gaza radicals reined in, peace would ensue. Following Hitler's solution to the 'Jewish Problem,' which was an attempt to wipe the entire Jewish population off the face of the earth, man woman and child, (and he would have done so had he not been defeated), the Jewish People swore that they would never again lie down and submit to any aggressor who attacked their people. To that end they have become an 'army state' with every adult liable for the call of duty to defend Israel. That is the heart of it all, but it seems to me that they do not strike first, but once attacked, they retaliate with a 'two for one' policy. If those who inhabit the Gaza strip, and the rogue States that provide an inexhaustable supply of rockets for Hamas to fire across the border, do not wake up soon, there will be no Gaza strip, it will be left a smoking ruin. On the other hand, if the rockets stop, and the tunnels cease to carry militants from Gaza to Israel, peace will return. Maybe I'm wrong, but old history supports the current history. Billy |

I guess Prefect you are all in favor of "The final solution" |

The fundamental rule of Christianity is "being compassionate trumps being right" In other words, even when you are in the right, the better course of action is to take a hit . I find it ironic that American Christians are worried about "going to heaven" yet in their actions they seem hell-bent on going the other way . I picture the following exchange on Judgement Day: (US Christian): Lord, we opposed gay marriage . Let us into heaven . (JC): See this child here, paralysed from the neck down and calling for her dead mother, why did you do this to her? Lord, this child was collateral damage in a just war . Eh . . . . ? Let me get this right . You are saying you did this because in some obscure technical sense, you were [I]right? Get out of my sight . . . ___________________________________ And here's the same scenario for an American liberal on Judgement Day: [Liberals are considered baddies in the US . They read the Huffington Post rather than Fox News and they oppose the bombing . ] Lord, please forgive me . I didn't realise that gay marriage was such a Hugely Stupendous Crime in your view . (JC chuckles then becomes serious) See this child here, paralysed from the neck down and calling for her dead mother . . . you supported her when everyone else was supporting the bombing . Did I, Lord? I don't remember . . . Well, you wouldn't remember, because you didn't do it to remember . You did it because your (Samaritan) heart was in the right place . . . Welcome to heaven! |
