1380833 2014-08-05 05:17:00 I never watch TV and sky was a bit of a rip off with the content they had.

Sky had monopoly over TV long enough and I think its time for them to fear what others are offering.
I say Go.. Slingshot!

1380834 2014-08-05 05:36:00 Breaking News: (apparently)

TVNZ has banned their ads too now.

Talk about shutting the stable door... never mind all the racket now about how they're pulling the ads which will just let more people know about it!

1380835 2014-08-05 05:39:00 If you want to look at who are the bad guys, find whoever thinks we should pay extra fees just because we are in a different country!
we both know it doesnt work like that

TV1, TV3 SkyTV etc will have paid to have exclusive rights to many programs.
Thats who's being screwed by this. So you are saying its OK to screw the Free To Air TV channels (and SkyTV)
If so, why would should free to air TV bother buying content at all ?

Yes its fraud, tell Netfix you arnt in the US & see what happens .

1380836 2014-08-05 06:16:00 FTA screw themselves by showing 3 episodes of a show then bump it to 11pm or later. Then they get tax-payer funding for this crap (www.stuff.co.nz)! :angry Renegade (16270)

Sky is irrelevant. The IP rights holders are screwing themselves by not allowing Netflix to sell globally.

Just because Sky bought it doesn't mean I want to buy it off them. IMO the whole point of paying to watch something is so you can watch what you want, when you want. I don't want to pay Sky to watch what they decide to show, at whatever time they decide.

As for FTA TV, most of it is rubbish anyway, they replay the same old films over and over and over while still peppering them full of new and exciting (?) advertising. You'd think with all that advertising they'd buy some new ones occasionally, or maybe something better once in a while. I have actually given up on TV for the most part now.

If I'm going to pay to watch something it's either at the cinema (make sure you come 15 minutes late to avoid the stupid ads), or a rental from the library, which has more things actually worth watching. I rarely buy films on DVD since most of them only get watched once anyway.

Netflix makes the most sense, you pay for what you want, you get to watch what you want when you want it, and there is no advertising.

Good discussion of the whole thing here too: www.geekzone.co.nz

1380840 2014-08-05 21:44:00 Mediaworks have also joined the ban.

Talk about shoot self in foot. FTA and sky can go and die as far as I'm concerned especially with the likes of MW deciding no hold off the next series of Hawaii Five-0 to 2015 even though the current series has finished in the US but of course they'll ramp up the reality crap..
Now that these companies have made such a big thing of this I'll set up Netflix when I get some spare time..
