1393673 2015-02-06 20:48:00 I want to install Win8.1 to my HP Notebook PC which is UEFI capable, but I don't want to use UEFI and have disabled secure boot from BIOS setup.

Will this work?

1393674 2015-02-06 21:21:00 It may, depends on if its the HP factory install or a fresh, non HP install I think. Have tried that myself, and sometimes on HP's if you disable the UEFI boot, it wont boot, and sometimes you get various warnings when it does about being insecure etc.

Usually disable the UEFI ONLY to allow booting from a CD to clone/image the drive, then put it back. Most of them have an option to bring up a boot menu (F12 Normally) but for some reason that as well doesn't always work.

Easiest way is to try it and see, if it boots, good if not just go back into the settings and enable it again.

1393677 2015-02-09 01:56:00 You may have to disable UEFI, if you want to boot from a USB flash drive too. Otherwise it wont boot. I had to do this, and enable CSM as well.

Someone needs to fix this forum, it keeps logging me out when I reply to anything!

Can I ask you, why MUST I use UEFI? Just a matter of personal preference - it doesn't serve much use, as far as I am concerned.

1393679 2015-02-09 03:28:00 I have yet to actually use UEFI despite having built and set up about 4 windows 8 machines and 1 windows 10 technical preview. Laptops are a little different of course but it's certainly possible to avoid using it on at least some PC's given my experience so far. Not that I have anything against it, for me it was just easier to install without it. I'll probably use it next time around though. dugimodo (138)

I had to do this, and enable CSM as well.I've successfully booted from USB on UEFI motherboards. Of course DVD boot still works ;)I don't actually see a reason to stick with BIOS if UEFI is the default. pcuser42 (130)
1393681 2015-02-09 06:20:00 I know you can but a laptop I was trying to boot a flash drive on wouldnt boot. Unless it was disabled and CSM was enabled Speedy Gonzales (78)
