2015-01-29 02:47:00 | I have written a journal while on holiday on an Android ASUS tablet using Polaris Office. The file is a .docx. When back home, I connected the tablet by cable to my Windows 7 desktop and copied over the docx file. I opened the file in WORD 2010 and all the text is there but the line formatting has changed and I haven't been able to restore it. I have searched for assistance in 2 books: "Office 2010 The Missing Manual" and "Microsoft Office 2010 Bible", and also Microsoft on-line help with no success at all. Therefore I seek help, please. On the tablet in Polaris Office The lines are left justified, and the right hand end of each line is ragged with complete words, ie no words are broken up (split), nor are words hyphenated to fit. In other words, all is just how I'd want it. But the file when opened in Word 2010 is left justified OK, but is also right justified and any words that reach the right hand end of a line without sufficient space are broken (split) so that part of the word is on one line and the remainder on the next line and no hyphenation either. I can't find a way to fix this. A couple of examples: "b" on one line and "us" on the next; "de" on one line and "ck" on the next. The command Home>Paragraph>Align Text (ctrl-L) doesn't fix the split words at the right hand end. Nor do the other 3 Align Text commands ctrl-E, nor ctrl-R , ctrl-J; nor does ctrl-Q. I've also tried the Page Layout>Page Setup>Hyphenation options with no success. I have looked for some command to do with line breaks but can't find anything. A very strange thing happens when I add a new paragraph after the end of the text brought over from the tablet: the words at the right hand end of lines do not split!! I've added a new paragraph between old paragraphs and this is OK too - no words broken. But if I add words into a paragraph brought over from the tablet these do get broken at the end of a line. I trust that this description is meaningful: I'm not sure of the correct jargon to describe words being split at the end of a line (if there is such).

2015-01-29 03:07:00 | Is there an option in Polaris office to save as a plain text file with no formatting? If so use that option then open the file in MS Word and reformat it. Graphic designers often experience similar problems when recieving files that have been formatted in Word and then imported into InDesign. Alternatively you could try exporting the file as a PDF

2015-01-29 03:32:00 | Is the page size and font size set the same in both? Can polaris save to older formats like .doc? I've only played briefly with android office software and usually with excel files created on a PC and copied to the tablet but I've found formatting is often not shown correctly. The best option I could find for my problem was to use google sheets which seems to be the most compatible with our work version of excel. You may have to use different office software to be compatible with your PC software if a different format doesn't work, there are several free ones you can try. Surprisingly even the official MS is free. Hard to say if that'll help your current predicament though. There are also DOCX to DOC converter apps available that might be worth a try.

2015-01-29 04:44:00 | Thank you. I think that my quick reply disappeared. I know not why. I can't find any alternative Save As options; I tried .txt but this was deemed as invalid. In Word I saved as a .doc file and as a .txt file to no advantage. I'm confused that the text file still exhibits the same problem.

2015-01-29 04:47:00 | Thank you. Page size does not seem to be able to be changed. The settings options are very few and none I could fine for page size. I've messaged Polaris. Polaris won't let me save in any other file type. I saved from Word as .doc and .txt to no advantage. Up to now I've used Polaris only to read Excel and Word files while travelling. I'll check whether MS will work on an Android platform.

2015-01-29 05:56:00 | I use wps formally kingsoft on multiple platforms and office 07 on my desktop and it keeps the formatting just not the spelling. | gary67 (56) | |

2015-01-29 06:56:00 | Thanks for your reply. Google Play won't download MS Office Mobile to my tablet ASUS Transformer TF700T running on Android 4.2.1; it will down load to my phone Samsung SIII Android 4.3. I have done this but what a hassle to create an account and sign in and it won't find existing files, it has something called a drop box that I haven't worked out yet how to put existing files in. What a huge waste of time this has been, and it's ongoing. Fundamentally my problem now is how to reformat the .docx file created by Polaris but now in MS Word but this is escaping my attempts so far.

2015-01-29 06:59:00 | Thanks. I'll give that a go. I've downloaded MS Office mobile to my phone. | 1393272 | 2015-01-29 07:35:00 | Well I've downloaded wps and opened the .docx file created by Polaris Office. The result is the same I'm afraid. The only solution I see now is retyping the whole thing, or doing a million cut and pastes. Otherwise I'm waiting on Polaris to see what they can suggest (if they even respond). There still must be a solution in Word itself to remove whatever formatting the file has come with, and changing it. I've added all the formatting characters and they show nothing out of the ordinary. Thanks for all your ideas.
