403477 2005-11-11 02:03:00 Yes Win98 will see a NTFS drive no problem on a network. Read the FAQ on networking, then if you need more help post your network setup and someone will help. berryb (99)

403479 2005-11-11 03:59:00 If the XP PC has a firewall, you have to add the 98 PC to it.

Are any firewalls installed?

wheres the networking faq?

Sorry I thought there was a FAQ for networking on F1 but when I looked I didn't find one. Go here www.wown1.com and have a quick read. Get a rough idea of how to setup XP so other PC's can see it on a network, also how to setup the XP and Win98. If you know this now and you have the IP address's etc done then check out how the share folders etc. Post back here with any questions and exactly how you have the 2 PC's connected eg via cross over cable or switch. What IP address's you are using etc.

You could also search this forum to see other posts.

Happy to help out but need more info.

403481 2005-11-11 10:21:00 Technically all that windows sees is the "Share", it doesnt care what the filesystem is because the networking is writing to the "SMB (Server Messaging Block)" filesystem irrespective of it being NTFS/Fat32. Its a networking "layer" if you will in laymans terms :)

Can your XP PC read my linux filesystem by itself? No.
Yet I can still share with windows PCs just fine :)

Basically its a Filesystem permissions issue here that needs to be fixed.
Just so that you take note, I'll say it again: Its a filesystem permissions problem on the XP box

403482 2005-11-19 04:54:00 very true, i never looked at it that way. once i get it to see that its there, how do i get it to read it? Mirddes (10)
403483 2005-11-19 05:00:00 Well all you're doing is enabling file sharing, and sharing a folder on XP .

Nothing else . It just lets u copy between the two .
