404014 2005-11-12 21:59:00 Got a nasty last night. Yes, self-inflicted - I downloaded a suspect rar file.
On un-rarring it launched itself - before actually running any of the contents. So probably a rewritten rar.

However I have both Counterspy and RegDefend among other things and both these immediately went into alert mode, blocking the attempts to reconfigure things.

Spybot picked up part of it, Counterspy was the best at finding all the bits.
Didn't trust any of them completely though so I deleted the offending file and then re-ghosted. Then ran all my tools again as well as doing some manual file searches etc.

But I highly recommend RegDefend. Alerts you BEFORE any damage can be done.

404015 2005-11-13 04:33:00 Thanks for that Pctek, il grab it, give it a whirl... looks like the sorta thing that'd be worth keeping on my thumbdrive in my "toolkit" :)

I dont think ive had to worry about the contents of a RAR file on my own PC in the last three years mind you.... :D

404016 2005-11-13 08:51:00 I was thinking, if it isn't listed already - add RegDefend to the list in the Spyware FAQ... pctek (84)
