| 403839 | 2005-11-12 06:59:00 | Hey, as most people will know Internet browsers have a password saving ability. I use Opera 8.5 and it has the password wand for passwords. What I want to know is...how secure is this feature. I've never used any password remember features in my browsers to date because I wasn't certian of their security features. If I used the password wand in Opera how safe would my passwords be? Would it be worth the risk, or should I just remember my own passwords? |

I think it uses 128bit encryption however, if someone copies your wands.dat file from the profile folder they can get your passwords. If your really worried and someone else has access to your computer you can password protect the passwords. Go TOOLS -> PREFERENCES -> ADVANCED -> SECURITY -> SET MASTER PASSWORD. my.opera.com is great for all your Opera needs  |

| 403841 | 2005-11-15 10:36:00 | hmm, would there be anyway for a virus/toijan or anything to access that file and send it to someone? I'm probally just being paranoid about my passwords, I have up to date virus scanner (as up to date as a virus scanner can be) a firewall (not winXP's crap one) a spyware scanner etc, so that'd probally protect it, right? |

| 403843 | 2005-11-15 17:56:00 | I doubt it . But if you have a trojan on your system, / and you dont update the system often when updates come out, then yup, it can and will happen . Some trojans don't do things by themselves . A person can be at the other end of it . |

I use the Wand for most of my passwords but no way do I ever save my banking password. In fact I don't even trust a bookmark to my banking sites but type in the address each time. |
