403471 2005-11-11 09:33:00 Wanting to update the firmware for my Sony 710a. So have been looking around for instructions on how to disable DMA which Sony say to do.Gets a bit confusing in Device Manager,as I have two Primary IDE Channels listed and 2 Secondary Channels.Do I go into all -Properties/Advanced settings and change both device settings/transfer mode to Pio only? Then do the opposite after flashing the DVD drive? This seems to be for the whole pc, not just the drive itself, correct? Thanks. Neil McC (178)
403472 2005-11-11 09:48:00 I think just the IDE channel containing the drive being upgraded needs to be set to PIO mode IMHO. :2cents:

Thats what I did for my DVD drive. (Sony DRU800A)

403473 2005-11-11 10:25:00 Thanks for replying,bob_doe_nz.Have looked at all 6 entries under IDE......controllers and can't find any mention of any dvd/cd drives. Any more clues? Also can't see any mention of DMA if I look into the drives section in Device Manager. Neil McC (178)
403474 2005-11-11 10:33:00 If its a windows 2000/XP system its under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Its usually the Secondary channel usually that the optical drives on... check with your computers bios.
