| 404656 | 2005-11-15 20:54:00 | Hi Team Re my weekend trauma with loss of connectivity, I have been holding off the router replacement from Xtra because I am buying new printers that are USB only, so I fancied getting a router with a print server as well. There is little price difference to Xtra's offer, so sourcing one elsewhere is not a problem. What is a problem though, is that all the routers with print servers only seem to offer USB 1.1 while the Canon iP4200 I want is USB 2.0. and I plan to add a Canon colour laser soon and that is USB 2.0 as well. No doubt they are backwards compatible, but I print some pretty big files and speed is important so I am concerned that USB 1.1 might be a bit slow. I also want to run both printers off the server and I can't find any information to tell me if I can run a USB hub off the print server to network two USB printers. I've spent quite a few hours on this now, so it is time to ask for help. Has anybody got prior experience here, either in satisfactory operation of USB 2.0 printers under USB 1.1, or in the use of a hub off a single USB port on a router/print-server? I am mainly looking at D-Link products (DL-704UP looks reasonable), but have an open mind and a tight grip on my wallet! Cheers Billy 8-{) |
