404360 2005-11-15 01:20:00 Hi, I have just burnt a fashion show contained in a DVD into a CDR disc. The file is only 419mb, which is enough space on a CDR disc. But when I put the CDR disc into a DVD player, it looks like it is playing but nothing showing on tv. Why is that? When I inserted the disc, DVD player recognised it as "Compact Disc". The DVD player can play the original DVD copy. It is not a new player, but it is capable to play DVD, CD,CDR and VCD.

Thanks
Phil

404361 2005-11-15 01:23:00 Did u burn it in vcd format to the cd?

And what program did u use?

404362 2005-11-15 01:41:00 I used Nero to burn the disc. There are 2 option - DVD or CD. I chose CD. Then I chose Copy data - 3 options (1)Make Data Disc or (2) Make Audio and Data CD. I chose Make Data Disc, so that is why it won't play on DVD Player.

But just now I tried to choose Make Audio And Data Cd option, it won't let me continue as the file format is not supported. Is that mean the file is licence protected.

Thanks

404363 2005-11-15 01:50:00 No it has to be a VCD, if u want to play it in a DVD player .

Copying it as a data cd, a dvd player wont know what it is, and it wont play it .

If u have Nerovision as well, use this, and select the VCD option in this .

The Data cd option, is for exe files etc . Not video files, if u want to play it in a DVD player .

You may have to either rip whats on the original cd onto the hdd, and reburn it back to cd with Nerovision .

Or if it works, copy whats on the original cd to the hdd, and then reburn it back to cd, with Nerovision .

404364 2005-11-15 02:08:00 so am i correct that I can't simply just copy the video+audio files in DVD into CDR disc eventhough it is enough space for a CDR disc? It has to be converted into VCD format. Will the picture and audio quality the same? Thx ahd8888 (184)
404365 2005-11-15 02:11:00 if the dvd your are talking about is video dvd
like the dvd movies you can buy
quick way to check is open the dvd and you should see VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS
then what you want to make is a mini-dvd

the media used for mini-dvd is a cd
but the content and structure is of a video dvd
so when standalone players play them they think its a dvd
but because it's still using dvd video format you have to authorise it properly

to get this to work you first have to rip the content of the original dvd onto your hdd
or if the content is not encrypted then a simple file copy and paste will do
run nero make a cd and select cd format "mini DVD"
then copy the content of the VIDEO_TS folder across
and burn the cd
hopefully then your standalone player can play this

404366 2005-11-15 02:18:00 Thats it .

That way, it may work, if you want to watch it on a computer .

It wont, if you want to play it on a standalone DVD player . If the original cd is in vcd format, the copy will play the same, if its burned as a vcd cd .

What format is this fashion show, in on the original cd? avi/mpeg, or other?

Is it just one file or more?

404367 2005-11-15 02:34:00 The file on the original DVD has 6 files:
- 3 x Video TS (Backup file of the IFO, DVD movie Info, and DVD MOvie)
- 3 x vts (Backup file of the IFO, DVD movie info, and DVD movie)

So is that mean these are DVD format file that can only be recorded onto DVD disc. If wanted to recored onto CDR disc, it will have to be converted into VCD format.

404368 2005-11-15 02:45:00 Read the nero help file under videocd. Speedy Gonzales (78)
404369 2005-11-15 03:48:00 still give mini dvd a try if you can be bothered
mini dvd works on my standalone dvd player.. might just work on yours
and keeps original quality and no encoding is required unlike making a vcd
