404786 2005-11-16 20:36:00 I would be happy with any of them.

Hell, Im still happy with my 6600GT.

I reckon another year and a half out of the old girl will be about right.

404787 2005-11-16 22:39:00 I have been reading that the x850 is no faster than the x800.
X850 is slightly faster but not by much in terms of MHZ

X800XT PE - Engine clock - 520, Memory clock - 540

Radeon X800 Technology Specifications
 160 million transistors on 0.13 micron low-k fabrication process
 Up to sixteen extreme parallel pixel pipelines
 Six programmable vertex shader pipelines
 256-bit quad-channel GDDR3 memory interface
 AGP 8X support or PCI Express ™ support

X850XT PE - Engine clock - 540, Memory clock – 590

Radeon X850 Technology Specifications
 Over 160 million transistors
 Up to sixteen parallel pixel pipelines
 Six parallel vertex processing engines
 256-bit quad-channel GDDR3 memory interface
 PCI Express® x16 lane native support

Small differences in clock speeds, but I think it's the transisor count and parallel vertex engines that give the X850 the edge.

My 2cents worth

404788 2005-11-16 23:01:00 In the benchmarks which card wins...

Is it the X800XT PE

Is it the X850XT PE

Is it the X800XL

Or is it the 7800GT that wins the benchmarks out of those cards listed.

Just wondering thats all... :D

404790 2005-11-19 02:14:00 thanks for the help on tht so is it worth the extra money for the x850 xt over the x800 xl?

404791 2005-11-19 04:50:00 7800GT for like $650-$750
its from the nvidia 7000 series, which is nvidias latest and greatest
the x850 is ATIs last generation(X000) and is compariable to nvidias 6000 series.
if you want ati youd be best gettign somethign from teh X1000 series.
the highend parts of last generation will high priced for quite some time to come, a quick look on price spy shows that the Nvidia GeForce FX 5950 is still at $707.63, its 2 generations old and would be on par with a low end X1000 series card such as teh X1300, and lowend 7000 series card ( when such cards are released).
currently on the nvidia side the 7800GT is the sweet spot, its cheaper than the high end cards of last generation, while being a fair chunk faster, the 7800GTX is just to pricey to offer that.

price does not always dictate quality.
just my 2c
