| 404817 | 2005-11-16 02:16:00 | Hi Had the Orcon Broadband up & going today. Worked like a breeze first time around! Two questions: 1) Is there some way to get a shortcut for the ADSL connection on the desktop - to be able to connect/disconnect to the internet? (The modedm I have is the Dynalink RTA1320) 2) I use AVG Free, AdAware, SpyBot and Windows XP Pro Security. What 'extra' security should I look at in addition to this? Appreciate the help! |

The windows firewall is ** OK ** for a wee while while you get your system sorted out, but FoxyMX is correct the sooner you ditch it the better Also you may also what to check that your firewall is working ok, here: http://www.grc.com/ & look for ShieldsUP! That will give you a good idea on how your firewall work & some other useful info Hope this helps :) PS: and make SURE you keep AVG Free, AdAware, SpyBot, The Firewall & Windows up-to-date! :) ** Note to self: must install ZoneAlarm on my laptop ** |

(The modem I have is the Dynalink RTA1320) Why disconnect at all? I turn my modem off at night when I shut off the computers and reboot it in the morning, but that's as much to ensure that I get a new IP address at least once every 24 hours as anything else . You don't need to disconnect like dial-up, but I'd get ZA or other good firewall installed asap to stop unauthorised outgoings . Edit: Just checked, it's a NAT Router so it is pretty secure against intrusions if left on . Cheers Billy 8-{) |
