| 405494 | 2005-11-19 09:32:00 | hi am new here so i hope u can help me !! i have a packard bell pc and it seemed slow so i installed 1gig of ram to speed things up now things seem just as slow any help plz ! my pc specs intel celeron 2.93 1.18gb of ram (3200) built in graphics and sound win xp home sp2 any help or ideas why my pc is slow by the way i just restored the whole system back to factory settings yesterday to try and speed things up but no luck. |

| 405495 | 2005-11-19 10:32:00 | Hi and Welcome to PressF1 :) Can you be a bit more specific with examples and what you mean by slow? Windows slow to load, games don't run, applications don't open? When the machine boots up, does it recognise the full amount of RAM? Have you checked for and removed any unnecessary programs from the startup list? What Antivirus and Firewall are you running? |

| 405496 | 2005-11-19 10:43:00 | thanx 4 the reply i mean its slow at starup, the only things that starup with windows is norton internet security 2006, mouse and keyboard drivers it recognises when i go into start then right click my computer it says i have 1.18gb of ram so i suppose it recognises it any help ?? |

| 405499 | 2005-11-19 11:07:00 | i had norton removed but the pc was stil starting up slow i thought more ram ment the pc got faster luks like i was wrong i need to keep norton on to protect from viruses and stuff i use norton because it is my fav and i wouldnt change it. any other ideas ??? |

If you want to protect your computer from virus, there are free and effective ones available on the Internet (e.g. AVG, Avast etc.). For firewall protection purpose, you might want to take a look at ZoneAlarm or Sygate Personal Firewall etc. Have you tried defragmenting your computer, like I said before? Cheers :) |
