405138 2005-11-17 22:03:00 Right mouse on My computer / properties / advanced tab / startup and recovery. Click on edit. Paste whats in the boot.ini file here. Speedy Gonzales (78)
405139 2005-11-17 22:09:00 Oo it doesn't look good. I get an error saying "The C:\boot.ini file can not be opened. Operating System and timeout settings can not be changed"

This could have resulted from my mass deleting of files & folders in the C:...

405141 2005-11-17 22:42:00 Cheers. I can't find the boot ini file anywhere... music_man (5482)
405142 2005-11-17 22:49:00 As it says on the MS site, its hidden.

Follow the instructions on the site, if u haven't yet.

And then see if you can find it.

405143 2005-11-17 22:51:00 Yeah I did that and still could not find it. music_man (5482)
405144 2005-11-17 23:14:00 Hmm ok . Try this then . run notepad .

Copy and paste this into it . Its the default boot . ini file .

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Change Pro to Home, if u use Home .

Is SP2 installed??

Save it in C as boot . ini

You're not using dual boot or anything are you??

If you are, this wont work properly .

405145 2005-11-18 01:00:00 I have another hard drive... will that change anything. If something goes wrong and the computer stops starting, what do I do then? music_man (5482)
405146 2005-11-18 01:03:00 just as long as it hasnt got an operating system on it / youre not dual booting it'll be fine. Speedy Gonzales (78)
