2005-11-19 13:50:00 | {font=smartass}You have the best virus program in the world so can be assured you have no virus{/font} but it would be a good idea to run HJT to scan for spyware, you dont need to post your log here just paste it here (http://hjt.iamnotageek.com/) and work through the results yourself.

2005-11-19 13:53:00 | I would even install a cheap graphics card, these things work wonders. | Rob99 (151) | |

2005-11-19 17:49:00 | specifically WHAT did you use to scan for 'viruses/spyware' etc. ?..........if you used norton then that result could well be incorrect..........norton is garbage and often misses trojans etc...........seen this heaps of times..............what sorta time frame are we talking here for startup ?.......how many minutes to get to windoze ?........ | drcspy (146) | |
2005-11-19 18:10:00 | to scan i used norton then webroots spysweeper then spybot then ad aware it takes round about 3-5mins to startup and i think this should be much faster with 1.18gb of ram my last packard bell pc was intel celeron 2.53 768mb of ram onboard sound and graphics win xp sp2 and that pc started up with norton 2005 and 2 other things and it loaded up in less than 30seconds so that means if my new pc has more ram in it should startup even faster than my old 1 any help !!

2005-11-19 18:37:00 | well a celeron isn't the most amazing processor out there but I doublt it should take 5 mins to load up.......ah.......just adding more and more ram wont make a system faster after a certain point.......get hold of 'bootvis' and run that ..........also WHAT antivirus did you scan with.....and will you PLEASE get 'hijackthis' and run it and post the log in the link someone else provided back there...............DO this stuff cause it's all steps in the process of figuring out what is goin on and if you dont do it then it's frustrating and annoying for the people who are tryin to help and doesn't get you any further................it'lll provide you/us extra information and confirmation of other problems which may exist...........and do a scan with somethin other than norton for viruses.......norton is CRAP..........try here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

2005-11-19 19:15:00 | If the problem lays purely with the startup time, then also try booting up the machine with all the extra peripheral devices removed, eg printer, scanner etc. I am also disappointed that many people just post, "get rid of Nortons" as solution to everything.

2005-11-19 19:20:00 | ive fixed several pc's that had nortons on it, i removed nortons and startup times improved a great deal, but in saying this you will need some other sort of antivirus, NOD 32 or AVG are recommended. and you may still need a few more tweaks... a hijack this log would be helpful....

2005-11-19 19:23:00 | Why?, Its not our fault that Nortons is so problematic that if its installed on a machine that is having issues then it is one of the first big issues that has to be looked at. I have whipped many above spec machines into shape only to have them still lag behind, then leap back into life with the removal of Nortons. If there is something to be disaponted abut, Then its that Nortons products have gained so much market share with such a poor product, and that so many retailers still push it as a good product. That system should boot to a usable desktop in under a minute easy.
