| 405344 | 2005-11-19 05:52:00 | Its not the spyware! Well not just . Its the hell of a mess its in . Files in the root dir, files in well - everywhere . Duplicates, bookmarks saved as shortcuts rather than in Favorites etc etc . Nothing is categorised, its just a huge jumble all over the place . And he expects it saved nicelt to CDs . On D: there is some attempt at a backup someone did - he didn't even know about it really - god knows whats what really . And its beyond a clean up . It needs a format . Its got Windows issues now too . And its a Compaq . Siimple? Run Recovery? Hah, it no longer has one . It had the MB replaced under warranty - they installed a different one - the recoveries are hardware specific - so they wiped it, split it 50/50 and reinstalled it all manually . In Fat32 BTW - but the problem is also he has no recovery partition now, theres no CDs either and of course no XP CD . He did have Works separate on CD is about it, and printer software . And then, if it is redone then he needs some kind of image so there isn't this hassle next time he messes it up . I've seen some messes but this beats all . Its a disaster . He's had a few techs there who ran away in effect - guess I am too . Really Visual Tech should do it - they caused this problem with the lack of any recovery s/w in the first place but seeing as its been 3 years - they sure aren't going to confess to it - they'll deny it . I know . I've dealt with them before . . . . If he didn't care too much about the files I'd do it but . . . . It would take ages too . |

| 405345 | 2005-11-19 06:02:00 | Thats the problem with systems like HP/Compaq etc . Something screws up / goes missing you're screwed! Well depending on what is actually wrong with it, it may not need anything else . Just a bit of a cleanup . BUT noone will know what to do, until it gets checked out . |

| 405350 | 2005-11-19 06:21:00 | What? that u know nothing ? I agree. Speedie, You have an alright understanding of some of the issues that regulery pop up here on PressF1, Yet your a google warrior not a competent Tech, You have no real experience, Limited to no knowledge of hardware and think you know everything. Perhaps one day you could be let loose, but you would need a fair amount of retraining first. |

| 405351 | 2005-11-19 06:23:00 | Has this person a second hard drive or CD/DVD burner? If so then get this person to save all his/her data. She/He should know where it was put. As to the O/S disk and lack of you could buy a new copy of WinXP or whatever. You have said that the original supplier is not going to help. You might consider pulling the hard drive from the system and putting this in your system and copying files from their hard drive and copying to CD or DVD from there. That is what I would think about doing. Save the files He/She needs! |
