406017 2005-11-20 23:52:00 IE6 will not connect etc while it opens I cannot get any items in file (other than close) Edit, view, tools help etc. On Favourites the only connection I can get is My Sony site.

All I get is the arrow and hour glass. I am using Firefox for this, (just installed a few minutes ago) The IE prob was there before this but only for the last few days. The only other programs installed was Quicktime by my son. No problems with Firefox.

AMD2600 1Gb, adsl, xp2

Any suggestions as I cannot get MS updates etc thru Firefox.

406019 2005-11-21 00:33:00 Did you unwittingly enable the "Work Offline" tab? Have you tried reinstalling IE6? Have you attempted to restore the settings back to the time when IE6 is still functioning via System Restore?

Cheers :)

406020 2005-11-21 00:34:00 Add/Remove - Add/Remove Windows components - take it out and reinstall it back.
Or even better - ignore it and continue with Firefox - its much better and not so much of a target as IE.

406022 2005-11-21 01:00:00 Thanks for the quick responses .

Tried all of the above othe than yours speedy before I posted . I usually used Opera but took that off in case it was causing a problem .

Wont accept a reinstall as it says current is a newer version .

Still cannot understand why it will work with 1 site (sony) and not the other few in "my favourites" and cannot access anything else thru IE eg tools, help etc . Restored to well back and it showed no changes . It was ok a couple of days ago . Have adaware, spybot, and f secure av . also hijack this shows nothing on the check . Typing in sites does not work either . Just seems to hang although I can close down program ok .

406025 2005-11-21 01:27:00 Tick these. Tick fix checked. (close browser/s.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe

Not nasty, but not needed in startup.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Not nasty.

lsass is a windows file, but there are trojans/worms etc that pose as legit windows file. Everything else looks fine to me.

Doesnt look like anything nasty has been installed, according to this HJT log.

I was going to say lack of ram, but you've got 1 GB.

What version of Quicktime is/was installed?

406026 2005-11-21 01:48:00 QT is ver 7

If I restored my ghost image of "c" back from "e" to "c" as IE was working ok then. would it just overwrite the files or would I have to format "c" first? and would it work?? Should not restore do the same??? I'm grasping at straws here.
