| 405860 | 2005-11-20 13:50:00 | Hi, I have a dial up connection... And on some occassions, upon connection. My computer does not respond (ie. when I try to open up a program nothing happens yet the start menu and any other menus respond like normal)... I may have to wait 10 minutes till the program opens up... I had this before with my old computer and I formatted the HDD to solve it... is there any way that won't involve me nuking the HDD and solving the problem?... Got Windows XP Pro SP2 |

I noticed you said "program" which does not necessarily mean internet, so you may have a RAM worm or somesuch. That or a trojan installed which could slow things down. Try AVG antivirus, spybot search and destroy, lavasoft adaware and Zonealarm. You could also check out: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run an oline one, but it may take a while usign dialup. |
