405897 2005-11-21 00:36:00 er, installed via i386. the lspfix is done. working on ccleaner now and will get to the hijackthis next. the only problem with the mdms.exe is it keeps coming back, no matter what i do.
Do it all from SafeMode and disconnect from the net until its done.

405898 2005-11-21 00:51:00 now what about getting XP to start without going through safemode, disabling all services, rebooting and enabling services by hand? blaster (9269)
405899 2005-11-21 00:55:00 Say what?

Thats the point of booting into safe mode. It just loads whats needed to boot into safe mode / XP.

You cant disable everything, (if u boot into XP normally), otherwise nothing will work.

405902 2005-11-21 01:19:00 umm, ok. blaster (9269)
405903 2005-11-21 01:50:00 So, is it any better than before? It should be .

If XP is slow booting up (getting into Windows), I would check device manager .

Under IDE ATA/Atapi controllers under the primary and secondary ide channel entries (under advanced settings tab) .

See if the current transfer mode has something like Ultra DMA mode 5 . Or similar .

If they show PIO mode here, this maybe one reason why things are slow, when u boot into XP .

405905 2005-11-21 02:00:00 Yer but under IDE ATA/Atapi controllers under the primary and secondary ide channel entries (under advanced settings tab) .

Whats it say here? DMA something or PIO mode .

What else have you got in the case, besides the SATA hdd?
