| 406857 | 2005-11-23 17:55:00 | i've recently come across the same thing in windows 2000 the person didn't install anything new and had a bit of a virus infection which is now i belive cured..........however the device manager shows as blank........but it all shows up in safe mode..........does yours show the hardware in safe mode ?........anyway in this case i've advised that I think a repair install sounds like about the only thing that will help..........i'm a bit stumped....and no in 'my' case that MS Kb article didn't help it was already enabled and runnig........ | drcspy (146) | ||
| 406858 | 2005-11-23 18:24:00 | It looks like this prob can happen, if all services have been disabled in XP. And it can also cause probs if the KB905749 update is installed on some systems. This is from a windowsupdate Newsgroup I too discovered I hand an empty device manager recently. I was trying to install new keyboard drivers and got a similar error as you did on your video driver update. I uninstalled the KB905749 update through Control Panel /uninstal software / (enable viewing of updates) and highlighted it and removed it. It came up with about 8 or so (estimate) other updates that it said would go with it. I let them go too and rebooted. Right away I went in and now can see my device manager contents. |
