| 406829 | 2005-11-23 10:14:00 | :help: Greetings all, thank you for reading this thread. I'm trying to help a family friend with their computer, it's WinXP-SP2. Their daughter has been using Kazza and it seems to attracted a lot of spyware (no surprises there). Currently IE6 isn't working, the connection always time out. However Outlook (not express) works prefectly as do MSN messenger. I've installed some cleaners and they did what they can, Ad-Aware personal, spybot 1.3, avast!, and microsoft anti-spyware beta version 2. I tried to use spybot 1.4 but somehow there's no connection available to update, the same happens with all the others although MS anti-spyware beta v2's update feature seems to be working fine. MS anti-spyware cleaned out almost 2000(yes, two thousand) objects under one user account, Norton's Live update don't work either. I checked all the connection setting under internet options and there's nothing wrong that I can see, the family has a LAN with ADSL. I installed FireFox just in case but that made no difference. I tried "ping"ing random websites, the only one that "timed out" was "www.microsoft.com". So their family PC still is functional minus the Internet, I tried what I can to help them but my ideas has ran out. May I please request for help from all you talented people out there, I really appreciate your time and thank you a plenty in advance. Oh by the way, how do you remove the Avast! software suite? The add/remove program in control panel don't work. Thank you very very much, any help is dearly appreciated. Tom |

| 406830 | 2005-11-23 10:27:00 | your tcpip stack has probably been damaged by the spyware go here and download a possible fix www.xp-smoker.com if avast won't uninstall, delete the program folders and run a reg cleaner download ccleaner and run the cleaner and the issues sections it's only a lightweight reg cleaner but it should do the job or reinstall avast, then you should be able to run the uninstaller again |

| 406831 | 2005-11-23 18:09:00 | It is unusual for Outlook to still work with a TCP or Winsock damage but a good idea to run that fix anyway. Also have a look in Add/remove programs for new.net and remove it if found before running the fix and restart the computer. Sometimes this is all that is needed to get internet access again. |
