| 406806 | 2005-11-23 08:23:00 | SP2 is a major renewal of many Windows files, so it seems that the incomplete installation has left critical files damaged. SP2 can have problems if your computer has any spyware, adware or viruses on it but otherwise is usually quite reliable to install. Have you got a Microsoft XP CD or a "recovery disk" for the original XP? |

| 406808 | 2005-11-23 08:39:00 | If its a Microsoft CD its not a recovery one, they are branded with the PC makers name. If its a full copy of XP: Boot from it (put it in the drive and boot the PC) and select Install, it will recognise that there is a copy installed and allow you to select a Repair of the existing installation. But if its a recovery CD, you probably only get the option for a destructive install where you lose everything thats on the PC. If you were able to divulge the make and model of PC it would probably give a guide to what type of CD its likely to be, but the Holographic MS ones are blindingly obvious. |

| 406810 | 2005-11-23 09:22:00 | then i found no recovery cd. any other suggestions? So I would expect that you have a CD containing WinXP Home or Pro Have you got a make and model of your PC or is it one that is generic? Have you a legal MS CD with the operating system on it. Can you boot of this CD if you have one. We need to know the make and model so we can tell you how to set the BIOS to boot off the CD. Have a look on the back of the case or side and is there a sticker with a Microsoft 25 alphanumerical number? |
