| 406458 | 2005-11-22 09:52:00 | DVD-RAM is a versatile and reliable DVD media. All data stored on DVD-RAM media can be accessed in the same manner as a hard drive, with drag and drop capabilities. DVD-RAM also features reduced noise and disc tilt, and enhanced durability. You can rewrite and read these discs thousands of times. Hello, I saw these online at Dick Smith - do other use them, it looks like a good backup medium. The one i was looking at can hold up to 9.5 - i assume thats only using a dual layer DVD writer? Do these DVD's just run in your DVD writer and you use just like a hard drive? Thoughts, commnets? Thanks Barry |

| 406459 | 2005-11-22 09:56:00 | DVD-RAm is teh native format for many (all?) DVD-Recorders, Meaning the box's that record TV. Generally very few computer DVD drives can read them, Though LG have a good model that does, at a very reasonable price. 9.5GB?, Must be a mistake somewhere, dual layer discs are 8.5, and still expensive and as far as I know unproven as reliable media. |

Nope that is correct. However you have to flip the disk over to get the other 4.8GB on the other side. I have a LG that does all modes including DVD-RAM and Dual Layer. It was good value for money. One note on the DVD-RAM disks though is that they are only that good if they are in a cartridge and of course the PC drives can't take them. I was using one DVD-RAM disk to transfer videos off TV to my HD for later watching and after about 10 copies it would fail to read in some places. It required a complete low level format a number of times to get rid of the errors. |
