406348 2005-11-28 23:55:00 Good to see they have improved it, still not game capable, in my humble opinion.... Metla (12)
406349 2005-11-29 00:16:00 I am considering this option of when my desktop (AthlonXP / 6600 GT) nears it's end of it's useful life. With 2GB of RAM and the Centrino 2.2 Ghz processor, it should be OK for RTS games.

I agree Metla, it would not outperform some of the 3Ghz+ / 6600 GT+ machines, used in FPS type games.

406350 2005-11-29 00:20:00 I never said that, I said its not game capable, Meaning it wont run games at an acceptable level, Which means it won't compete with a 2 year old desktop computer running a 9600SE.

Proof will be in the pudding so to speak though.

406351 2005-11-29 00:28:00 I know Metla. The 3Ghz + / 6600 GT is almost a 2 year old desktop platform.

A current generation would be a 4Ghz / 7800 GT platform.

406352 2005-11-29 00:44:00 Systems with 3GHZ/6600GT's are out selling 4Ghz / 7800 systems by 50 to one at least, and the 6600GT if i recall apeared on the NZ market about this time last year.

If you do get that laptop, Make sure you tell us how it runs AOE3.....

406353 2005-11-29 01:18:00 If you do get that laptop, Make sure you tell us how it runs AOE3.....Agreed. It should then also run Civ IV too! KiwiTT_NZ (233)
406354 2005-11-29 02:01:00 Just to clarify this; the ATi Mobility Fire GL is not a supported video card for AOE3:

www.agecommunity.com

Best get a laptop with ATi X-600 or better or GeForce 6600 or better, though I'm guessing it will work with the latest integrated graphics by Intel (the 9xx GMA).

The X-600 works fine on my laptop (though only running demo at the moment). All details on high except particle quality normal I think.

BTW, you mention you're just looking at the moment, but next year there will be dual core laptops which are faster than the current sungle core offerings (at least from Intel - Yonah). Best to wait IMO.

406355 2005-11-29 02:27:00 So you've figured it out? I would like to bring you to the attention of the new Toshiba workbook. It's $5999 at the outlets, but has:
-1024 MB's of RAM
-80GB's HDD
-A G-Force NVIDIA 9000 graphics card
-17'' LCD monitor SXGA quality 1280x1024 pixels
-Powerful 3.2 GHZ Intel Pentium processor
-Çompatibility with most Windows software

You may not be willing to go for this top of the line desktop replacement model, but I would like to open your eyes to alternatives with focus on performance.

406357 2005-11-29 02:42:00 Checked the list.

The Fire GL 7800/9000 may not be supported, but the Fire GL T2/V3200/V5000 maybe.
