407598 2005-11-25 22:29:00 I got a new harddrive, its all working, and have given it drive letter of D, and formatted it. (All done through control panel)

I am trying to install WinXP onto it. I boot off the disk, go to install it, but all it finds as an install location is C, my existing windows.

How do I install it in D ?

407599 2005-11-25 22:36:00 You'll most probably have to do a clean install (boot from the XP CD), and hopefully select the right hdd, so it can format then install XP on it.

So, you're going to run 2 XP's on 2 hdds?

407600 2005-11-25 22:38:00 You could just leave the new hard drive in and take the old one out. And then install XP bob_doe_nz (92)
407601 2005-11-25 22:48:00 Check your BIOS for the boot sequence, and your drives' jumper settings. Greg (193)
407602 2005-11-25 22:58:00 Yes, going to run a winXP off each drive.

Yup, thats what I am trying to do, but I seem to be able to select C (my original drive), and not D (my new drive).

Greg, what exactly am I meant to be looking at for the boot sequence?
Original hdd is Master, new is Slave.

407603 2005-11-26 04:05:00 if you can access the Hard disc in windows, why not just select New Installation ad tick I want to choose the hard disk and partition during setup?" maverickoc (7240)

407607 2005-11-26 07:31:00 stupid thing- what if you were to re-format drive C:, install xp fresh on there with sp1 and then do another one with SP2 installed? maverickoc (7240)
