407450 2005-11-25 07:59:00 I have a Samsung SP0802N, which i am trying to install as a slave drive. I have it on the channel with the master drive, (the only other drive on that channel), and have tried all jumper settings on in the instructions. yet when i boot windows, the drive does not show in My Computer, the system runs very sluggishly, yet the drive shows and is listed as working in Device Manager...any ideas? 407451 2005-11-25 08:02:00 It could be slow if the original drive is faster. Since the faster HAS to slow down to keep up with the slower one.

And... did you format it before use? That could explain the missing drive.

click Start / Run / diskmgmt.msc / Enter / look up your HDD / right click and format it

407452 2005-11-25 08:04:00 Connect it to the primary ide / on the same ide channel as master.

Remember to jumper it as slave, on the back of the hdd. And remember to configure it in the BIOS as Primary Slave, or Secondary slave, whichever slave ide connection its on inside the case.

If u have XP, go to control panel / admin tools / computer management / disk management. Highlight the slave, right mouse, and select format.

407453 2005-11-25 08:05:00 The new slave drive will not show under My Computer until it is formatted. What operating system do you use? If you use XP, this is easy to do via the disk managment and you should see it detected there. Jen (38)
407454 2005-11-25 08:08:00 You need to make a partition on the new drive in Disk Management - if there is a partition but its not formatted it usually does show in My Computer/Explorer Dannz (1668)
