407064 2005-11-24 19:43:00 And how did u rename it?

Just reload the doc and save as and give it another name.

Or open My computer, and F2, give it another name. And press enter.

Are you saying the name makes a difference?
Putting in date and abbreviation of title .

407066 2005-11-24 20:12:00 No matter what name I change it to,I get the above message.
Example name CBS emails.

407067 2005-11-24 20:17:00 Sounds a little like the warning dialog shown when a file extension is changed from say, ".doc" to something which is not a recognised file type. Otherwise something has somehow changed the access attributes? manu (8770)

407069 2005-11-24 20:58:00 Make sure the document you are trying to rename is not open in Word, close Word before you rename.

Try a reboot, then see if you can rename without opening the file.

If that dosent work put your steel caps, ear muffs and hardhat on and post back, I will then give further instructions.

Hi ho Rob.
Just to be clear here,I,that is to say SWMBO has right clicked on word docs in documents and seems to have ignored the warning ïf you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable.

407071 2005-11-24 21:31:00 So if you are renaming the files from within explorer etc, you must ensure that you keep (or add if it has now gone), the ".doc" on the end of the filename. Otherwise word will no longer 'recongise' the file as a word document. wuppo (41)
407072 2005-11-24 21:37:00 You may need to hide the extentions silvertech.co.nz

Or if you like to see the file extention you need to put it in when you rename: newname.doc
